  • An isometric puzzle game based around impossible geometry

  • Released December 2024

  • Made in Unity game engine

  • Worked on a team of around 35 people, within a team of 6 designers

  • Worked as a Junior Designer on the upcoming Monument Valley 3

  • On the project from October 2023 to December 2024, from pre-production to launch

  • Worked on levels from concept and whiteboxing through to making them design complete: creating original mechanics, creating and iterating on whitebox designs, and supporting art and audio on the levels

  • Used ustwo games' visual scripting to set up events and mechanics

  • Gathered feedback from playtests performed both online and in person, and used that information to iterate on levels

Levels

The Town

Creating this chapter, I had three main focuses:

  • Introducing the mechanics

  • Introducing the impossibility within Monument Valley

  • Creating a space for the artists to create a lively environment, showing what's new in Monument Valley 3 compared to the previous games

The Torrential Parting

In this chapter, I created two of the portal levels.

The first of these levels introduces what the portals are, where the player learns how to complete it by learning how the portals work, and the second level adds a larger puzzle element, as the player has to figure out how the moving parts fit together in the correct order to complete the puzzle.

The Inverted Palace

This level was made to introduce the inversion mechanic used in this chapter. The aims for this level were to:

  • create a simple introdution to the inversion

  • don't use inversion in the same way it's used in the following level, so the suprise remains

Sub Rosa

This level was designed to be challenging, as it's towards the end of the game. I kept the moving parts minimal: the player only has access to one dragger and one rotator, yet due to aspects like the right button appearing more straightforward to reach than the left button, despite the player needing to reach the left button first, the difficulty of this level was high.
